Jaywick Martello Tower, Essex On Tour
Jaywick Martello Tower was built in 1809 as a fortification due to England’s fear of invasion by Napoleon’s forces. It’s builders were determined that it should survive enemy attack, 750,000 bricks were used to build its twelve to eight feet thick circular walls and it was armed with three canons on the roof. Two centuries later, the Tower has been fully renovated and is home to a thriving arts, heritage and community venue.
Jaywick Martello Tower is our Environment, our Community, and our Heritage. We pursue opportunities and ventures that make this not only a gallery, heritage site, or meeting point but all of these things. Whether your interest is in art, heritage, the environment, or just unexpected delights, then JMT has something for you.
