The Broadway, Barking
theBROADWAY is a unique new performance and entertainment venue in Barking town centre. Previously known as The Broadway Theatre, the building was a 'municipal hall' of some architectural significance, designed by Herbert Jackson and Reginald Edmonds in 1936 and completed in 1969, forming part of the Barking Town Hall complex. The venue has now been completely modernised and redesigned by Tim Foster Architects, and includes a stunning new glass facade, an auditorium with flexible seating, with a capacity of 341 (which can be altered to accommodate up to 850 for a standing event). The venue is now managed by an independent trust, with registered charitable status, and is aiming to improve access to arts facilities in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the surrounding areas of East London and Essex.

Getting to The Broadway
Turn right out of the ferry terminal onto Fishbourne Lane. At the end of the lane turn right again onto the main road (A3054). Continue along, over the bridge by the Sloop Inn into Wootton, up the High Street, straight across the traffic lights at the top of the hill, over the hill and down the other side. Shortly after the bottom of the hill take the left exit from the roundabout, then keep going straight. Shortly after you enter Newport at the 4Omph limit you can see ahead the 30mph limit signs by a small rise in the road. Almost immediately over this rise on the right is the entrance to the Mountbatten centre (also signposted as Medina High School), which is where we are. On the entrance drive, round to the left and over and down a small incline, parking in one of the carparks on your left.
