Helena Romanes School & Sixth Form Centre, Braintree & Great Dunmow
The name Helena Romanes came from the school's first Chair of Governors who had been closely involved in the development of education in the county. It began life on the current site in 1958. The school grew, new buildings were added and it became fully comprehensive in 1970.
The Helena Romanes School and Sixth Form Centre is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow. A state-of the-art Sports and Leisure Centre, shared with the local community, is located on site.

Getting to Helena Romanes School & Sixth Form Centre
Driving along the M11 coming from London, leave at Junction 8. At the roundabout turn right (4th exit) onto the A120 (Thremhall Avenue). At the next roundabout turn right again (3rd exit) continuing on the A120 (Thremhall Avenue).
Come off the A120 at the 2nd exit you come to (B1256) and go straight over at the first roundabout (1st exit). At the next roundabout go straight over/left (1st exit) onto Stortford Road (B1256). Go straight over at the next roundabout (2nd exit) and continue along the same road, leaving the B1256 at the next roundabout (1st exit), continuing along Stortford Road.
At the next roundabout take the first exit onto Rosemary Lane which becomes The Downs. At the next roundabout go straight over (1st exit) onto The Causeway (B184). Go straight over at the next roundabout (2nd exit) and take the 3rd/4th left hand turning onto Parsonage Downs. The school should be just after the 1st right hand turning on your right.
